Book review

After a brief visit to Bohemia, where Douglas was interested in some mines, that he was going to either buy, or sell, the travelers went to Petersburg. The capital of the empire met their cold mist and rain. Russian were sociable and nice, but sometimes, lamented Douglas, a little more curious than is customary in good society. If a person is traveling, it is also his private affair, as if he did not travel. However, in Russia the title of the traveler looked very unusual and require explanation or reason to this kind of occupation. When Mr. Douglas started asking irrelevant questions about the reason for his visit, he briefly said that doctors advised him to stay for some time in a cold climate, then it attacked a strong cough, suppress further questions. Perhaps it was the doctors advised him not to smoke. To avoid temptation, he carried with him everywhere tortoiseshell snuffbox with snuff. Treating Petersburg acquaintances, he never for a moment, however, did not let it go. It was reasonable caution: a double bottom snuff were several closely written sheets on thin paper. It was a cipher, composed of the French secret service to him!
