REFERENCES Moldavia and Wallachia Beginning of the XVIII century. It marked a decisive attempt to break free of the Principalities of the Ottoman dependency. Demetrius Cantemir ruler of Moldavia made with Russian Emperor Peter I the military alliance. To it was drawn and the ruler of Wallachia, Constantin Brancoveanu, later izmenivshiysoyuznikam. Prut campaign of Peter (1711) failed. D. Cantemir had to move to Russia. The Ottoman Empire, to strengthen control over the kingdoms, decided to appoint rulers of Phanariotes (Greek families who were in the service of the sultan in Constantinople and lived in the neighborhood Fanari, hence the name). It began the so-called era of Phanariotes, which lasted more than a century.
